Diatomaceous Earth – Sprinkle on top of feed or use it as a dust bath. Do not inhale the dust as it can be harmful to the lungs. Use as a natural pesticide along edges of coop or gardens to control mites and other pests.

Oyster Shell – Use as a source of extra calcium for your laying hens! Feed free choice if you notice weak or thin egg shells. Important: Oyster shell does not substitute as grit because it is digested for calcium. Please provide plenty of grit also!

Grit – Offer free choice or sprinkle on feed to promote healthy digestion! Grit stays in the chicken’s gizzard and helps grind feed so that it can be absorbed by the digestive system.

Feeding Instructions:

Feed chicks Naturally Free Starter Feed from day 1 until 8 weeks of age. We recommend a trough feeder so the fines can collect for easy consumption.

Feed Chick Grit to chicks from day 1 through 8 weeks of age. We suggest offering Chick Grit in any of the following ways; free choice in a separate dish, sprinkling on top of the feed or tossing on the ground in their coop area to encourage natural scratching behavior.

Diatomaceous Earth can be sprinkled directly on top of your chickens feed for consumption, around the coop bedding and it can be used as a dust bath.

*Be careful handling Diatomaceous Earth as it should not be inhaled.

How many chicks is this kit good for?

The DE and the grit should last 2-5 birds a very long time. As for the feed, we estimate that each layer chick will consume 3lbs of feed during the first 8 weeks and broiler chicks approx 6lbs during the first 4 weeks.
