Product Description

Naturally Free Organic Grower is a Non-GMO Project Verified and Certified Organic product for laying birds. We use a blend of organic whole grains grown in the Pacific Northwest. While all of our products are soy free, our Naturally Free poultry feed line is both soy free and corn free.

At 8 weeks of age, your chicks’ growth rate will start to slow and they will be big enough to consume whole grains. This is the perfect time to begin transitioning your chickens to our Naturally Free Organic Grower. Don’t worry about any left over Naturally Free Organic Starter; you can mix the two feeds together.

Naturally Free Organic Grower contains a similar mixture of organic ingredients to the Naturally Free Organic Starter feed but it contains less protein and the grains are left in their whole, natural state. We leave the grains whole because oxidation begins once a grain is cracked. Oxidation slowly diminishes nutritional value as the oil in the grain starts to turn rancid which shortens the shelf life and palatability of the grain.

At 8 weeks you can begin to transition your growing birds to our Naturally Free Organic Grower from their starter ration as they have developed to a point where they can handle the larger whole grains.

Be sure to continue offering grit – we provide Cluckin’ Good Grower Grit, which is the appropriate size for birds who are not yet full grown. You can continue to feed our Naturally Free Organic Starter and combine with Grower if you still have some left. They should be large enough now to be outdoors and starting to get accustomed to sleeping in their coop.

Feel free to begin offering Organic 3-Grain Scratch or Organic Scratch n’ Corn by tossing around their run to promote foraging (scratching and pecking) or use as a training tool to come when they are called!

You can also boost the nutrients by fermenting your flock’s feed. Browse our Helpful Guides for more resources on how to use our feeds to optimize your flock’s health.

This is great feed. My girls run over when I fill up their feeder.

We switched our chickens from a big brand Starter/ Grower feed to Naturally Free Grower. Our chickens went from droopy pale combs and dull plumage to perky bright bright combs and shiny full plumage. This is great feed!

I’ve been using this company’s products for a little over a year now, since the girls were chicks. I recently had to take one of my ladies into the vet and he was shocked at how well my hen looked. He said it was a testimony to other chicken owners. Of course, I spend a lot of time with my ladies and they have a great environment to live in (we love them very much) but I know the food has a lot to do with it. Thank you for being available.

I am new to chickens and searched for a non-GMO, organic, healthy feed for quite some time. I happened upon Scratch and Peck and ordered two bags. My seven hens are shiny, bright-eyed and love this food! They go nuts when they see me coming out with the bag. I’m looking forward to continuing them on Layer once they hit their 18 week mark.

I feed this to my ducklings and they love it! I just wish there was somewhere in CT I could purchase it.

      Hi Rachel,

If there isn’t a feed store near you that carries our feed, you may want to consider seeing if Azure Standard has any drop points near you. They distribute our feed and we love them:

Our eggs taste great since we starTed feeding this to our girls, but… they just don’t like the barley. And there’s a lot of barley, both in this feed and in the scratch. That isn’t to say this isn’t good feed, and if your ladies like barley they’re going to love it! Mine just… don’t.

Love this feed! I’m very educated about nutrition and I am so impressed with the ingredients in this feed. That would mean nothing if the chickens didn’t like it, but they LOVE IT! I feed some dry and some fermented. I’m sure this ferments so easily because of the probiotics and probiotic yeast. Plus the shipping is super fast.

I went to just about every feed store within a 25 mile radius (which is several) and even if you can purchase organic non-gmo, it has soy and corn. So happy I found this feed. Just wish you were available locally. Due to my inevitable procrastinating on ordering, I usually end up having to supplement my girls with store bough crumble/pellets (ugh!) Love this feed. Love your new video!

My chickens love it, it’s super healthy, but why all the powder?? The powder creates A LOT of waste as the chickens avoid the powder and pick out the grains. Would be 5 stars if there wasn’t so much powder/waste as this feed is expensive. I’ve been ordering for a few months, but am getting frustrated with the waste and will be looking elsewhere or making my own blend as the feed just isn’t lasting long at all, and we only have 5 chickens.

Hi Derek, those are the fines that occur because we do not pelletize our feeds. The fines from the grains may settle to the bottom of bags during transport, so we recommend stirring the feed before giving it to your flock. We also recommend fermenting our feeds to incorporate those fines because the fines have beneficial nutrients. You can find info and instructions on fermenting feed here: You can also collect the fines and mix them with a small amount of plain yogurt or oatmeal. Fermenting feeds, though, requires less feed per serving because the grains expand during the fermenting process. Hope that helps!

My chickens love this feed. They run over to us and follow us to the feeding area when we bring out their food. It’s truly amazing how much they love this food.

For whatever reason, a feed store employee convinced me to try another brand. I didn’t realize it was pellets until I opened it. I was so disgusted. I put it out for the chicken, and after 4 days of them not eating, I ordered another bag of Scratch N Peck. They love it! That’s all they will eat! I am happy with the tasty eggs I have been getting.

    Truly a great product, thank-you! 🙂

I have been buying this organic whole grain grower feed for almost 2 years now. My guineas enjoy fermented feed so that’s how I offer it. The problem I have with this feed is my birds do not like and will NOT eat the barley, AND as another reviewer mentioned… there is a lot of barley in this feed. I would say I toss out about 20% every day. I truly wish that Scratch and Peck offered a barley free formula because I do think this is one of the best quality poultry feeds out there and that’s why I keep buying. If it were not for the big waste I’d give this a solid 5 stars.

I use this as a treat on a daily basis (being quite happy that there is no concern about over feeding it). They may not always come running for sunflowers seeds or worms, but they think this feed is the best stuff ever!
