Did you know that April 30th is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day? In honor of this magnanimous day, we are excited to introduce you to the two newest members of the Scratch and Peck Flock — Lennon and Daphne!
A few months ago, we got to tour Pasado’s Safe Haven, and meet their amazing team of caregivers, volunteers, and residents. We met donkeys, llamas, goats, cows, pigs, ducks, turkeys, and of course … chickens! Pasado’s is currently home to roughly 100 pullets, hens, and roosters in need of homes — some abandoned, some from abuse or hoarding situations, and some rescued from a commercial battery cage operation. Chickens galore! After the tour was over, our team was so moved by the experience that we felt compelled to do something to help. We completed an adoption application, and with some guidance from the wonderful Pasado’s team, we welcomed Daphne and Lennon into our lives.
Daphne came to Pasado’s this past Fall, with a severe infection following a broken knee that had been left unattended. The dedicated staff nursed her back to health, and now she is a fluffy, happy, fluffy, good natured, (did we mention fluffy?) young lady. Daphne enjoys cuddles, grubs, laying eggs, and nesting in the pretty flowery bicycle basket. Lennon, believe it or not, had been at Pasado’s for FIVE YEARS! We were all at a loss as to why he hadn’t been adopted already, because not only is he incredibly handsome, he is also very friendly and takes great care of the ladies! Lennon loves to sing, snack on sprouts, and he has taught his new flock mates how to roll the yellow treat ball until the Cluckin’ Good Grubs come tumbling out (although he always lets his ladies eat first).
We are so honored to be able to give Daphne and Lennon a forever home, and honestly, we think that we are the lucky ones.
