Product Description

Scratch and Peck Feeds Naturally Free Organic Layer Feed + Corn With 16% Protein for Chickens and Ducks is a Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, soy-free product.

This Stage Two feed is appropriate for laying hens ages 20+ weeks that may require extra protein to support increased production often during molting seasons. During these times, the best solution is to use a complete feed with a higher level of protein and calcium to support what their bodies need.

Scratch and Peck Feeds Naturally Free Organic Layer Feed + Corn With 16% Protein may contain more fines than our 16% feeds due to the extra macronutrients. For this reason, fermenting this feed, while not required, is a win-win solution to more nutrients for the animals using it.

This feed is suitable for chickens, ducks, geese, and all waterfowl.

Practicing Flock Management Best Practices will give your flock the best chance for a long and healthy, happy life. During Stage Two we recommend Scratch and Peck Feeds Cluckin’ Good Layer Grit paired with Scratch and Peck Feeds Cluckin’ Good Organic Herbs.

Scratch and Peck Feeds thoughtfully sources nutritious whole grains and beneficial ingredients from trusted North American farmers. We produce Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, soy-free premium animal feeds, supplements, and treats for chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, sheep, and pigs.

Your hens should be approaching their full grown size at approximately 18-20 weeks of age. Begin introducing Organic Layer with Corn 16% gradually to allow for a slow adjustment to the new feed formula. This is more important when switching from a different type of feed such as crumbles or pellets as your chickens may not immediately know how to consume a mash style feed.

Refill feeders only after all feed has been consumed (til they “clean up their plates”). Trough feeders provide the best access to our whole grain feeds. Be sure to offer fresh water, plenty of Cluckin’ Good Layer Grit and you can begin to supplement Cluckin’ Good Oyster Shell.

Feel free to continue offering Organic 3-Grain Scratch or Organic Scratch n’ Corn by tossing around their run to promote foraging (scratching and pecking) or use as a training tool!

You can also boost the nutrients by fermenting your flock’s feed.

Organic Peas, Organic Barley, Organic Wheat, Organic Corn, Ground Limestone, Organic Flaxseed Meal, Organic Sesame Meal, Fish Meal, Organic Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin and Mineral Pre-Mix

Can I feed this to my ducks, geese or other waterfowl?
Yes! Our Layer feeds can be fed to ducks, geese and are suitable for all waterfowl.
My birds aren’t laying this time of year. Is it okay to switch to grower instead of layer for winter as they don’t need the added calcium/minerals in the layer?
Yes, you can, however, we recommend sticking with layer feeds as your birds are large enough to process the additional calcium.
How much do laying hens eat?
You can plan on a hen eating 1/4 to 1/3 pound of feed every day. This amount will depend on many factors including access to free range pasture, weather and occasionally breed type.
What is the shelf life of Organic Layer with Corn 16%?
Unlike many pelletized feeds, our feeds are whole grain and contain no preservatives. We recommend a 9-month shelf-life.

Previously, my hens would eat their other crumble…begrudgingly. They preferred filling up while ranging or on fruits and veggies. They love Scratch and Peck! They eat voraciously and I will catch them sitting in the feed bin when I am filling their bowls! This is the only food that makes them “purr” while eating. I appreciate the quality of this product.
