Scratch and Peck Feeds is proud to share that we are THE FIRST animal feeds manufacturer to receive the official badges of Certified Organic and Non-GMO Verified, and this work continues today. We believe in the mission of the Animal Welfare Approved organization and work every day to walk the talk of the growing B Corporation movement. Our products are free of soy and other non-essential ingredients and fillers and all our sourcing, producing, and bagging represent our commitment to our Made In North America certification.

“The certifications have always been very important to me because that’s how I shop. I want to have the comfort of knowing what I am buying and reading on the label, is what I will get. I knew early on our customers would care about this level of integrity as well.”
~Diana Ambauen-Meade, Founder & Chief Integrity Officer

Now, more than ever, consumers are concerned about nutrition, reading ingredient labels, inspecting packaging, and looking for authentic certifications like USDA Certified Organic.

In the US, Organic certifications are run directly by the USDA, which operates the National Organic Program (NOP). It sets strict rules for how animals are raised, how crops are grown, how soil health is managed, and how pests are treated.  Annual reviews and inspections are performed by a third-party, independent certifier to ensure adherence to the program.

Understanding the Organic certification empowers consumers to look for products that carry the Organic seal. Informed consumers can make conscientious decisions about what to buy to best feed their families and their animals.

Buy with confidence. All feeds produced by Scratch and Peck Feeds carry the label USDA Certified Organic.

The Non-GMO Project Product Verification Program is North America’s only third-party verification for Non-GMO food and products.

The US National Organic Program (NOP) does not allow GMOs either, but it also does not require ongoing testing for them. Whereas the Non-GMO Project verification does require testing for GMO presence that potentially cross-contaminated organic grains in the field, and the Standard itself is continually reviewed and refined as we learn more about GMOs.

The Non-GMO Project creates the Standards we must meet, independent inspectors, and accredited testing labs evaluate our products to ensure ongoing compliance with the Verified Non-GMO certification label.

You may be surprised to learn that corn, soy, cotton, canola, alfalfa, papaya, potato, sugar beet, and zucchini are commonly grown using GMO’s. While all our products are free of soy, you can be sure any of our products made with corn, alfalfa, and a carefully selected list of other ingredients are both Verified Non-GMO and Certified Organic.

Look for the butterfly on the label; only Non-GMO Project Verified products can use this certification.

“I wanted to provide that security for myself and so our customers understood our aim was to make the highest quality, cleanest feeds available on the market.”

From operations to our impact on local communities, and nurturing our global environment, the Scratch and Peck Feeds Team works to adhere to the strict socioeconomic guidelines established by the BCorp seal. Achieving BCorp Certification means we operate with transparency, dignity, and accountability.

Certified B Corporations achieve a minimum verified score on the B Impact Assessment—a rigorous assessment of a company’s impact on its workers, customers, community, and the environment—and make their B Impact Report transparent on Certified B Corporations also amend their legal governing documents to require their board of directors to balance profit and purpose.

A FORCE FOR GOOD, Scratch and Peck Feeds, a Certified B Corporation, is continually working for equity for all living beings, diversity, and inclusion in communities and workplaces, and care of the natural environment and the planet.

“BCorp is very important because this business wasn’t built just to make money. There are other pillars we live by like taking care of the planet, people, environment, and our employees. The BCorp values are all about using business as a force for good and that aligns with my values,”

  • We envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good.
  • This economy is comprised of a new type of corporation – the B Corporation –
Which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
  • As B Corporations and leaders of this emerging economy, we believe:
    • That we must be the change we seek in the world.
    • That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.
    • That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.
    • To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations

Since day one we have been committed to building relationships with local farmers and businesses who share our same commitment to premium quality. This belief rings true today and will be the model for future growth.

Knowing where your food comes from, how it’s grown, and the families you’re supporting builds a story of trust and belonging which is a keystone to everything we do. As advocates for sustainability, we promise to stand alongside the agriculture community, working together, to find solutions that support the health of our planet, people, and animals.

“We are required to adhere to stringent guidelines, conduct multi-level testing, and put ourselves out on the line to prove to our customers that we have met or exceeded the requirements for these certifications.”
